Overview

The Department of Ophthalmology aims at providing quality eye care to all demographic groups with its state-of-the-art facilities. A sizable area, almost 14000 square feet, has been set aside for the wards and outpatient clinic. Modern ophthalmic technology is available in the outpatient clinic for both diagnosis and treatment. High tech tools are kept in a special operating room for cataract and other ocular procedures.

Highlights

General Ophthalmological screening for refractive errors, cataract, glaucoma and Diabetic retinopathy is done. Well equiped operation thatre is available for cataract and glaucoma aurgery. Speciality check up is also available for retinal surgery.

Outpatient Services

The Department provides outpatient services from 08:00 AM to 3:30 PM every day. 24/7 on call patient care is provided.

The routine services offered in the OPD are visual acuity testing, Glaucoma evaluation (Tonometry, Gonioscopy, Fields), Retinal examination

The outpatient clinic is equipped with minor operation theatre.

Specialized Equipment in the Outpatient department & Operating Room

Spacious OPD is equipped with  these high-end therapeutic and diagnostic equipment :

  • Nd:YAG Laser
  • Perimeter
  • Optical Coherence tomography
  • Fundus fluorescein angiography
  • Ocular imaging
  • Ultrasound A & B scan
  • Specular microscopy
  • Argon LASER

Zeiss Microscopes with Phacoemulsification devices, and a separate operating room for infected or septic cases are installed in the dedicated operating room for ophthalmic surgery.

Eye Bank: The CHRI's eye bank has been operational since 2014. There are resources for internal corneal retrieval from outside.

Surgery for corneal transplants  are performed.

Specular microscopy is available at the eye bank.

Inpatient services

Patients who need hospitalisation and post-operative care are given inpatient services. This is offered via eighty-bed wards, with an equal number of beds set aside for male and female patients. The wards have slit lamps and are adequately ventilated.

Emergency eye care is offered in the zero-delay ward and EMR around-the-clock.
