Overview

The medical specialty of gastroenterology focuses on the prevention, identification, and treatment of illnesses of the gastrointestinal tract, liver, and pancreatic-biliary system in both children and adults. In 2010, Chettinad Hospital and Research Institute launched its Department of Medical Gastroenterology. For the medical care of gastrointestinal bleeding, gastrointestinal, malignancies, and the removal of foreign bodies, Chettinad provides cutting-edge endoscopic operations.

The Gastroenterology Department at CHRI has a team of consultants that are extremely skilled and experienced in diagnosing and treating disorders of the liver and digestive system.

Outpatient Care

Hepatitis B Clinic: A systematised Hepatitis B specialist clinic is held every Monday from 8.30 am to 4 pm in the department of Medical Gastroenterology. Hepatitis B testing and treatment are provided to patients. Hepatitis B immunisation is given special consideration.

Patients with pancreatic diseases and pancreatic cancer are treated at pancreas clinics. Malnutrition and insufficient pancreatic enzymes are given special attention.

IBD Clinic: Patients with IBD (crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis) are treated there.

Inpatient Care

Inpatient care is facilitated by providing utmost care to the sick patients. Patients can choose between general wards, semi private rooms and private rooms.

The Intensive Care Unit is fully equipped with all necessary lifesaving equipment like multipara monitors, ventilators, centralized oxygen and suction facilities, infusion pumps, syringe pump, defibrillators etc. 

Medical emergencies such as acute pancreatitis, Acute on chronic liver failure, Upper GI Bleeds are treated with special care.
